I hope that everyone is enjoying the great weather.  It has been great to get a head start on cleaning up our lawn.
Preschool and Kindergarten registration is currently underway.  Children who are turning 3 by September 1st are eligible to enroll in the Alburgh Community Education Center Preschool Program.  Children who are turning 5 by September 1st are eligible to enroll in kindergarten.  Please contact Shannon English, the school registrar, at 796-3573 x 0 to speak about enrollment.  You can also find the enrollment forms at the alburghschool.org website under new student registration tab on the left of the screen.
Currently, the Vermont Department of Health and the Vermont Agency of Education has not changed guidelines regarding middle school students and 6 feet distancing.  We are anticipating a change because the CDC has changed the guidelines to 3 feet. We will keep all middle school parents updated as information becomes available.
Ms. Arnold is working on the 2020-2021 yearbook for our school.  If you have pictures and would like to share with her to see if they could be included in this year’s yearbook, please email them to alburghyearbook@gisu.org.
Our school is currently preparing to administer the Smarter Balanced Assessment (Grades 3-8) and the Science Assessment (Grades 5 & 8) in May.  Please see the attached letter for more information.  We will be working with parents/guardians who have chosen fully remote for this school year to schedule days and times when their student(s) will come into the school building to participate in this testing.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 796-3573 ext. 2.
There has been misinformation on social media regarding our school’s responsibility in reporting COVID.  Under the current guidelines, all Vermont schools only report to faculty/staff/parents/guardians if there has been a positive case in the school.  The school does not report out when students/families have tested positive during a school vacation or may be a close contact.  Our school has had 2 confirmed positive cases in our school this year and on both occasions the whole Grand Isle Supervisory Union has been notified. This includes all faculty/staff/parents/guardians.  You can visit https://www.healthvermont.gov/sites/default/files/documents/pdf/COVID19-Transmission-Schools.pdf. for more information on transmission of COVID in Vermont Schools.  You can also visit http://www.gisu.org/covid-19-communications.html to read all communication from Superintendent Clark regarding COVID transmission in the Grand Isle Supervisory Union schools.  If you have questions or concerns, please call our health office at 796-3573 x4 or myself at extension 2.
I want to thank parents/guardians who have kept our school informed of situations that are occurring outside of our school to help ensure the safety of our school.  It is greatly appreciated, and this communication has brought success in our day-to-day operations.
Happy Spring!!
Ms. Beth
